Why Zotero?

This workshop introduces Zotero, a powerful and free tool that will save you time, and make the citation a bibliography creation process less painful. Zotero helps you quikly and easily collect, organize, cite, and share your research. Learn how to build a personal library of sources from websites, databases, and PDFs, and then automatically generate bibliographies and citations in various styles for your papers. By automating these tedious tasks, Zotero saves you valuable time and frees up time so you can focus on the more impactful and interesting aspects of your research.

Learning objectives

At the end of this workshop, you will be able to:

  1. Know what Zotero is, why it is free, and what other citation managers are available.
  2. Add citations automatically and manually to Zotero.
  3. Verify and correct citations in the Zotero database.
  4. Create a custom bibliography using Zotero for copying & pasting
  5. Create, edit, and change citations and bibliographies in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, & LibreOffice.
  6. Understand the role and limitations of the Zotero online environment vs. the standalone app.
  7. Use metadata (tags, notes, etc.) to augment citation management.
