Why QGIS?
QGIS is a free, open source desktop Geographic Information Systems (GIS) package that allows users to analyze and edit spatial information and create and export maps.
This Workshop
It is highly recommended to:
- Complete Introduction to QGIS with Vector Data
- Use a second monitor or print out the workshop activities
- Use mouse with a scroll wheel
Participants will create a customizable detailed map with inset overview map, Lat/Long grid, Legend, etc. This introductory workshop will cover basic concepts in QGIS and QGIS Print Layout, and will include exercises on utilising vector data and creating a customizable detailed map. This workshop is designed to help students who are new to QGIS and Print Layout to understand and utilize some of the main features.

- Review and list differences with some mapping tools
- Identify and navigate key Print Layout elements
- Distinguish why QGIS Print Layout is necessary for custom map(s)
Learning Outcomes
Using QGIS, participants will:
- Load (.shp, .csv) files
- Navigate main features of Print Layout
